August 24-First Presbyterian Church of Logan

By Stu Parkinson, Asst. Scoutmaster-Troop 1

Tuesday evening, Troop One had its’ annual “Back to School” troop picnic…...with over thirty Troop One scouts, their friends, along with several new joiners, enjoying themselves!

After properly burning their hotdogs to a coal black hue, the boys coated their dogs with the traditional mustard and ketchup, grabbed some chips, cookies, and a cup of lemonade…..and after a few bites, hotdog #2 became skewered, ready for another dose of charring.

As everyone finished up with their light dinner snack, it was now time to show your knot tying skills to Troop One Committee Chairperson and knot tying expert, Marietta Veeder. Upon proving you could tie a certain knot….you were issued a plastic chip, which was even better than money….it gave you the right to toss a softball at a Dunk Tank metal plate, which upon being struck by the ball, gave a Troop One Leader and occasional scout a refreshing dunk in the tank!

I must confess that scouts Joshua Whitney and Garrett Martin seem to have rocket arms…..as their softballs at some time or another that evening…..usually seemed to find its’ mark on the metal plate….dunking me not once but twice!

At 8:30 pm we all wrapped up the get together with a proper scout closing, with another “Back to School” troop meeting now history. If any Cache Valley boy age 11-17 would like to consider joining Troop One, we would love to see you! Tuesday’s from 7:00-8:30 pm, at the corner of 200 West and Center Street in Logan (First Presbyterian Church of Logan) is where we meet. We are a non-denominational scouting unit, and have scouts in our troop from Wellsville to Smithfield.
