Closeup of Bomb Disposal Robot/Vehicle.

Bomb Disposal Robot in action on Main ST

Sunday evening at 7:15PM while turning south at the intersection of 400 North and Main Street in Logan I came across what appeared to be a bomb disposal robot at work. Police cars and officers where posted at various intervals in all directions 400 North and Main Street. The officers appeared to be encouraging traffic to turn early and avoid the intersection, setting up a perimeter of sorts. The robot was at work on the south west corner of the intersection inspecting what appeared top be a bright blue fabric luggage bag. The (riding lawnmower sized) remote controlled vehicle/robot repeatedly poked and prodded at the bag in an apparent attempt to see the inside contents with it’s on board video camera “eyes”. No word on whether this was a real suspicious bag left behind or a training exercise.

After quickly surveying the surrounding area I realized every corner of that intersection has gas stations on it, except the corner the robot was working. A few worst case scenarios ran through my head of one or all of the stations catching fire if a bomb where to go off. I decided I’d read about how this turned out later, rather than linger at the scene.

I wondered what was going on. Came out of Logan canyon Sunday afternoon and traffic was all a mess because of the road closures. Now I know, thanks.
