I was driving home from a date I'd been on with my girlfriend. It was 12:55 a.m., Tuesday morning. I had pulled onto our dead end street in North Logan, just off of 1800 North. As I approached my house and drove past the neighbors house, I saw a white car parked between the neighbors lawn and our property. I didn't recognize the car, and being a dead end street with no thru traffic, it made me a little suspicious. As I drove past, my head lights revealed a girl in the drivers seat of the car. Just as I was passing, it looked like she was reaching for something. I drove past, and pulled into the front of our driveway to turn around to see what she was there for. In the process of turning my car around, I saw a man rummaging through our garage which had been left open. The man had short buzzed hair, almost shaved. He wore a red shirt, and shorts. He was carrying something(s) with both hands, or possibly propping up something under his shirt. As soon as my headlights shown on him, he bolted out of the garage and toward the white car I'd seen earlier. Since I was already in the process of turning around when I saw all of his activity, I was able to cut him off before he reached the car. He turned his head so I couldn't see his face, and headed east, toward the backyard which has a canal running behind it. I realized my efforts were limited to pursue him on foot, so I focused my attention on the white car, which was now obviously his getaway vehicle. I had my cell phone out, dialing 9-11. I pulled behind the white car which now showed to have no license plates, and turned my brights on. The car was parked facing north, ready to pull out onto the main road of 1800 North. At first when I came behind the car, it pulled forward a foot or two, but then remained there, supposedly pretending to be innocent and uninvolved. Only a few seconds later it slowly began to turn around to head south down the street. As the car turned, I saw the girl on her cell phone talking to someone (probably the burglar) The car headed south, and then quickly realized it was trapped on the dead end street. She turned around and came back to where I was waiting in my car. I pulled in front of he to stop her from leaving. She slowed down, and squeezed around my car. The girl had her window rolled down and said "What the hell is the problem" again, pretending to be uninvolved. Meanwhile I was on the phone with dispatch giving my story and location. She drove past, and I followed close behind with my brights on her. She now knew that I knew exactly what role she was playing in the robbing of my house. She sped onto 1800 North, heading east. Turned south onto 1200 East. I drove after her blurting street coordinates into my phone to the dispatcher. As we head south on 1200 East, I saw the blue and red lights flashing on top of the hill up on campus. We were near the foothill gas station when I stated flashing my brights at the University Police officer. It was apparent that he was about to drive past us. The girl turned right onto 1800 North, after the University squad car pulled in front of me, and pulled her over. 2 other cars came, and began to question her, while other NPPD squad cars were sent to my residence on 1000 East. The girl identified the man to the police. Both of them lived in a hotel in Ogden, and according to the police, had just recently been released from prison for previous burglary charges. I wrote up a witness report, and was told I could return home. A perimeter was setup by police surrounding the incident, but with all the rural fields, horse pastures, and canal, the man was still unfound. A search dog followed a trail along the canal band to 1400 North, where the trail was lost. More police came to the residence, along with search dogs, but as of 4 a.m., a man by the first name of Erick, still remains unfound. A purse with wallet, credit card, and drivers license is missing from an unlocked car within the garage. Detective Black attempted to extract finger print information from a car door which was ajar at the scene, but had no success as the prints were smeared.
