Food pantry still has needs for Christmas holiday

Thanksgiving went well and now Cache Community Food Pantry Director Matt Whittaker says he wants to make sure families in need have a Christmas dinner. Whittaker says the food will be distributed to families on December 18.

“We’ve had a few people come down that have shown an interest in helping us,” Whittaker says. “They’ve said, ‘What do you need?’ And we’ve told them, ‘we’re getting close to what we need for turkeys,’ and I’ve said, ‘if you could get us a small ham that we can give away for families that would be great.’

“So we’re looking for just a few items. If anybody out there has traditional Christmas dinner items that they would be willing to help us out with we would love to have it.”

Whittaker says the pantry would also appreciate financial contributions to help finish paying off the new building.

Additionally, Credit Unions in Cache County are reminding the public that they are still accepting donations of food for the Cache Community Food Pantry. As part of the Cache Valley Credit Union Holiday Food Drive, non-perishable food items can be dropped off at any valley branch of Deseret First, America First, Mountain America, USU Charter, Logan Medical-Federal and Logan-Cache-Rich credit unions through December 14.

In addition, food can be taken to the Eccles Ice Center, the Cache Valley Transit District and Cache Valley Morning Rotary Club at Sam’s Club through December 14.
