Cache County Sheriff’s Department struggling to keep officers, looking for women

LOGAN— Cache County Sheriff Lynn Nelson said he is able to hire a lot of great employees, but keeping those employees has been a challenge.

On KVNU’s March 14 Crosstalk show, Nelson said that’s because not long after they are trained, many leave because they can make more money almost anywhere else in the state. He said this creates a real challenge for the Sheriff’s office.

“We are working diligently to bring in minorities, especially women, which we’re obligated to have women employees, especially in the jail, and it’s a great opportunity if you’re female and have any interest in law enforcement and working in that environment. It’s a pretty good duty.”

Although the people he hires love living in Cache Valley they, move on so they will be able to provide better for their families.
