SV baseball picks up third straight win, 6-3 over Clearfield

Region Five baseball is right around the corner and the Sky View Bobcats look as though they are ready for it. Sky View improved to 6-4 on the season and snagged its third straight win with a 6-3 victory on the road Tuesday against Clearfield.

Austin Heaps came up big for the Bobcats with a two-run homer that put Sky View ahead 4-1 in the bottom of the third. The three-run cushion was enough for the Bobcats’ defense to hold on to win.

Chandler Thompson controlled the mound for the Bobcats through the early innings, while Colter Johnson then picked up the save with his arm in the seventh inning.

Johnson also hit the ball well. He and Mitch Berryhill each had two hits in the win. Berryhill had a double, while Johnson had two RBIs to match his defensive effort.

Sky View starts Region 5 play with a trip to visit valley rival Mountain Crest. The 4-6 Mustangs are coming off a double-header they split with Stansbury.

Mountain Crest and Sky View will play a doubleheader April 10. The opener, which will be played at The Yard in Hyrum, is slated for 3 p.m. The nightcap will take place at Richard V. Hansen Park in Smithfield, beginning at 7 p.m.
