2 Northern Utah projects among UDOT’s top 10 for 2013

The Utah Department of Transportation released a top 10 list of 2013 road construction projects on its blog Wednesday. While there are not as many large construction projects, there will be more than 150 projects statewide. Two of those top 10 will affect commuters in Cache and Box Elder counties.

UDOT plans to continue repaving U.S. 89/91 from the Sardine Canyon summit to State Road 23, also known as Center Street in Wellsville. Daytime lane closures will be taking place throughout the summer. This project is number six on UDOT’s top 10.

Next on the list is a unique interchange for Northern Utah. UDOT is planning on constructing what it refers to as a diverging diamond interchange, or DDI, on the I-15 and 1100 South interchange in Brigham City [see the related YouTube video on the left for a simulation of how a diverging diamond interchange works].

Traffic may be redirected around the project throughout its duration, but UDOT says crews will work to minimize delays. The project is expected to be completed next summer.

According to the blog post, other top projects include I-80 Drainage Pipe Replacement in Parleys Canyon, widen I-15 from the South Payson Interchange to Spanish Fork River, further construction of the Southern Parkway in St. George, extend SR 193 (Bernard Fisher Highway) in Davis County, I-15/St. George Blvd DDI Configuration, U.S. 89 improvements from Orem to Pleasant Grove, Continuous Flow Intersection on 13400 South/Bangerter Highway, and concrete maintenance on I-215 from SR 201 to North Temple in Salt Lake City.
