Old Lyric Repertory Company celebrates theatre’s 100th birthday

The Old Lyric Repertory Company is celebrating the 100th birthday of its home, the Caine Lyric Theatre, with five shows and a special anniversary performance. Artistic director, Dennis Hassan, who is an associate professor in the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University, said the season has been planned to honor the 100th anniversary and it opens on Thursday, June 6 with “Nunsense.”

Nunsense brought the biggest crowds ever when it played three other times at the Lyric. The other shows this season are “The Odd Couple,” “The Drowsy Chaperone,” “James and the Giant Peach,” and “The Woman in Black.”

“It’s a one night extravaganza gala,” Hassan said. “We’ll be bringing in people from past seasons as well as the present season to produce a big musical gala. There’ll be a big fundraiser for the Lyric.”

Hassan said the vaudeville-type production will feature performers from companies past and present. The season runs through August.
