LOGAN – A tradition in Cache Valley, the Loaves and Fishes Community Meal is now served on the first and third Saturdays of each month. A fundraising event Saturday is designed to insure the long-term health of the event.

“Our purpose in doing this fundraiser is to make sure this community meal can continue to be available twice a month,” said Rachel von Neiderhausern. “We have had so many kind and generous donations and help from the Food Pantry and the LDS Bishop’s Storehouse.

“We want to have these annual fundraisers so that we can become self-sufficient.”

A “Luau Community Dinner and Silent Auction” is Saturday, 5-7 p.m. at the Lundstrom Student Living Center (1295 E. 1000 N.) on the Utah State University campus.

Cost is $5 for individuals, $15 for a family. Tickets are available at 178 West Center in Logan. Mo’ Bettah Steaks restaurant will provide the food.

The silent auction will continue throughout the full two hours of the dinner.

Von Neiderhausern said everyone is welcome to attend the free community Loaves and Fishes meals twice a month at the First Presbyterian Church.

“We have a wide variety of groups and organizations who, as volunteers, take turns preparing the meals. Our calendar is completely filled with help for 2013. It is a big list and we are so grateful for all of the support.”

She said volunteers are needed Saturday to serve and to clean up afterwards and anyone interested may call 554-1081.
