Pioneer Day concert honors pioneers and patriots

Large crowds have been attending the offerings of the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre since it opened last week and a highlight next week will be “Pioneers and Patriots.” Utah Festival board member Julie Hollist said that it is a concert to celebrate Pioneer Day in Utah with the western pioneer spirit on the night of Wednesday, July 24.

“There are lots of fun activities going on throughout the community during the daytime, but this is a great way to cap the evening with inspirational music that is patriotic,” Hollist said. “It also incorporates some American favorites, a few pioneer hymns as well, a tribute to the Armed Forces and a patriotic sing-along.”

The Utah Festival Orchestra will perform with some of the soloists and conductors, Hollist said it’s one of the concerts being done for half-price for the Cache Valley community for voting to approve the RAPZ tax. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Ellen Eccles Theatre.

More details about the concert event will be discussed when American Festival Chorus founder and director Craig Jessop will join UFOMT founder and general director Michael Ballam on KVNU’s Crosstalk program Monday, July 22 at 9:10 a.m.
