Cache County Fair on Saturday is for the dogs

LOGAN – Saturday at the Cache County Fairgrounds the local 4H Dog Program is inviting dogs and their owners to a Community Agility Lessons and Show from 3-5 p.m. at the northeast entrance to the fairgrounds.

Jill Romo, a 4H volunteer, is directing this event. She said registration will continue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in order to have the dogs prepare to try out the agility course. Dogs must be on a leash.

“We encourage everybody to bring the family dog and give our club a try,” she said. “We will be doing the agility trials and teaching the community how to go through hoops and jumps and through tunnels and you will also get to meet the Zoomdogs, a fantastic local club that competes. We’re very excited about this event.”

She said it is for all dog breeds, no pedigree necessary.

“We welcome all, from a mutt to an AKC champion, it doesn’t matter. This is brand new, this is our second year of involvement in Cache County. It’s a great program. 4H teaches a lot of great things to these kids.

“You just watch the bond between those children and their dogs and the progression they make. Our 4H motto is ‘Make the best better’. And this club gives them that opportunity.”

From 6-8 p.m. is set aside for prizes and awards.

“We will recognize the biggest dog, the smallest dog, fastest dog and best costume. We will have musical doggie chairs with all kinds of relay races. Just a lot of fun events for the community to be involved in.

“Everyone is also invited to come and watch the 4H trials. They start at 10 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. That’s a great time to also come and learn about what the dog club is all about and how to get involved. We support those 4H kids who have worked so hard this year.”

Romo said a donation of $10 a dog is requested.
