Angie’s mural will display locals’ art

LOGAN- Last summer, Matthew Vance was driving down Main Street when he noticed the blank north-facing wall of Angie’s restaurant.

“I thought to myself, ‘Why is that not being used?’ It could be used for an advertisement. It should be used for something to increase the value of the restaurant,” said Vance, the Marketing Director of Angie’s Mural.

After some brainstorming with his wife, the idea of creating a mural was born.

The theme of the mural is People, Places and Times of Cache Valley. Angie’s is looking for local artists to contribute art for the mural.

Vance said there is not a lot of publicly displayed art in Cache Valley. This mural will give Angie’s added attention and also help get community members involved.

For those interested in submitting artwork, the deadline is February 24. Artwork should be handed in at Angie’s. Initial entry cost is $15 and additional entries are $10. Three art pieces can be submitted per person. Artists must also fill out an application form, which can be found on Angie’s Facebook page or can be obtained by emailing [email protected].

The contest will include four age divisions: 12-14, 15-17, 18-30, and 31+. Three winners will be chosen from each division through a weighted judging system. Half of a participant’s score will be based on a vote from the public while a panel of judges will decide the other half of the score. Not only will the winners have the opportunity to paint their creation on the mural, but there are also cash prizes available.

Painting for the 12 ft by 50 ft mural will take place in April.
