NORTH LOGAN – On Saturday, May 3rd, dogs and owners alike will gather at King Nature Park in North Logan for the second annual Run to Rescue 5k Trail Run/Walk. The race is put on by Four Paws Rescue. Early online registration will close Thursday night, but you can still register on Saturday morning prior to the race at 9:30 am. Early registration cost is $10 per person. Day of cost is $15. The race will start at 10 am and runners are invited to bring their dogs along for the fun.
“This is a canine friendly 5k trail run. You can run or walk with your dog. We even had someone carry her dog in a backpack last year because the dog had surgery,” said Shannon Syrstad, a volunteer at Four Paws Rescue and one of the main organizers of the 5k.
Friendly and leashed dogs run free. After the race, there will be prizes for the dogs and a raffle for their owners. Syrstad said this is not a competitive race, and she invites the public to bring their families out and just have a good time.
“It’s family friendly. Kids can participate,” Syrstad said. “It goes through the King Nature Park Trail and parts of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. It’s a double wide, gravel graded trail, so there’s room for two lanes of traffic.”
Syrstad added that nearly 100% of the proceeds will go to the animals at Four Paws Rescue.
“Almost all the money is going toward our pets. Our two biggest needs are pet food bills and veterinary medical expenses. They each take up about 45% of our expenses,” she explained.
Syrstad said that Four Paws Rescue typically houses 80 dogs and 80 cats on any given day. Four Paws Rescue is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to helping homeless dogs and cats. They rescue stray and abandoned animals from high-kill shelters.
