Thousands gather for Freedom Fire 2014

LOGAN — It was a night full of music, dancing, patriotism and of course fireworks, during Freedom Fire 2014 Thursday night in Romney Stadium.

This year’s program featured the music of Mile Marker 6. The band made up of local members energized the crowd with a mix of covers and their own songs. Their set started with a fiddle rendition of Ozzy Osbourne’s Crazy Train and later had people on their feet when they finished with a tribute to the military, during Brooks and Dunn’s Only in America.

Some of the other highlights included appearances from newly crowned Miss Utah Karlie Major, Freedom Fire grand marshal Brent Carpenter, Idol contestants and the Logan City Police Honor Guard.

Cheers erupted from the crowd as national radio host Glenn Beck took the stage. He thanked the crowd for accepting his family and talked about how Independence Day has changed through the years.

The American Festival Chorus and Orchestra also performed a mix of patriotic songs including This Land is Your Land, Stars and Stripes Forever and Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Big Blue also stole the show, tackling conductor Craig Jessop and leading the chorus and orchestra in The Scottsman.

The show concluded with a 25-minute fireworks display from Fireworks West International including fireworks inside and above the stadium, choreographed to music.

Following the fireworks, Mile Marker 6 took the stage for an encore as people made their way out of the stadium.
