That Famous Preston Night Rodeo brings people home

PRESTON – That Famous Preston Night Rodeo comes to town this weekend for its 79th year. It’s an event the rodeo committee spends all year planning, and they are expecting to see plenty of people show up to the weekend’s events. In fact, Committee Chairman Kris Beckstead said more people come home for rodeo weekend than they do for Christmas.

“Our little motto is ‘Come On Home’,” Beckstead said. “It’s a great event. It’s been going on for so many years that people just put that on their calendar.”

Beckstead said they have such a good turnout for the rodeo each year because it has been going on for so many years. That Famous Preston Night Rodeo first began in the early 1930s. It’s a tradition for those who are from the area. Beckstead also believes Preston’s Rodeo is a popular one because it is a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) rodeo.

“We get some of the very top cowboys,” she exclaimed. “When you get quality cowboys and you have quality stock, you have a consistently good rodeo every year.”

Pre-rodeo will start at 8:00 pm with the rodeo starting at 8:30 pm on Thursday-Saturday night. Tickets can be purchased online at prestonrodeo.com or by calling (208)852-0898. They can also be purchased at Stokes Marketplace in Preston.

Other events will go on prior to the rodeo each day. A parade will occur each night at 6:30. There will also be sidewalk sales, a 5k race, and a golf scramble. On Saturday, there will be an airshow at the Preston Airport.
