Judge to decide if man should face rape and sodomy charges

Ray Reeder, 45, arrested on two counts of rape, a first-degree felony and two counts of sodomy, a second-degree felony. He is being held on a $100,000 bail.

LOGAN — A judge will soon decide if there is sufficient evidence to bind a 45-year-old Wellsville man over on charges of rape and sodomy.

Monday afternoon in 1st District Court, a preliminary hearing date for Ray Reeder was scheduled for December 2. During that hearing, a judge will determine if there is probable cause to bind Reeder over for trial.

Reeder was originally arrested in August and charged with two counts of rape, a first-degree felony and two counts of sodomy, a second-degree felony.

At the time of the arrest, Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said a female teenager told a school councilor how Reeder had raped her. The councilor notified the sheriff’s office and Division of Child and Family Services, who began investigating.

Reeder is being held in the Cache County Jail on a $100,000 bail.
