Burglary suspect arrested in Smithfield

Logan McKell Reidel-Rupert, 32, arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of burglary, theft, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and other charges. He's being held on $9,000 bail.

LOGAN — A 32-year-old Logan man was arrested early Saturday morning, accused of burglarizing a Lewiston company and deputies say he might be responsible for a number of other burglaries in Cache Valley.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said Logan McKell Reidel-Rupert was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail after a woman reported seeing him burglarizing Cache Valley Tire. The woman told deputies she watched the man jump into a 2003 GMC Yukon and drive away. She followed the vehicle to a nearby residence and tried to block it, resulting in a minor collision. She reported last seeing him fleeing the area, traveling south on US 91.

Peterson said deputies, with help from Utah Highway Patrol troopers and Smithfield Police officers, blocked both lanes of travel and conducted a high risk traffic stop near 8000 North US 91.

Reidel-Rupert was arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and other charges. He’s being held on $9,000 bail.

Peterson said a 12-year-old boy was with Reidel-Rupert at the time of his arrest. He was taken into custody and later released to a parent.

Reidel-Rupert is expected to be arraigned in 1st District Court this week and could face additional charges.

Peterson said they believe Reidel-Rupert’s arrest will help solve multiple crimes that have taken place recently, most involving the theft of metal.
