Sandy man charged with sexually abusing Logan girls

LOGAN — A 35-year-old Sandy man, charged with sexually abusing two girls in Logan is expected to make his first appearance in 1st District Court, while also facing similar charges in West Jordan.

Matthew C. Henderson was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail on Thursday. He is scheduled to make his initial appearance Monday afternoon, on three charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Logan City Police Capt. Tyson Budge said officers began an investigation in April, after two girls reported being sexually assaulted by Henderson. At the same time, officers in Sandy were also investigating similar allegations.

In addition to the three charges Henderson faces in Logan, state prosecutors have also filed nine similar charges against him in 3rd District Court, in West Jordan. Court records show the abuses allegedly began in 2011 and continued until March of this year.

Budge said in each case the victims were under the age of 14 and knew Henderson.

Henderson faces a total of 12 charges, each carrying a maximum sentence of 15-years-to-life in prison.
