Deputies identify Logan man who drowned at Cutler Reservoir

LOGAN — Deputies have released the identity of the Logan man who died Sunday morning while kayaking in Cutler Reservoir.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said the 76-year-old victim was William F. Kline who is believed to have drowned after the boat he was in capsized.

On Sunday around 11:00 A.M., Kline and his wife, Elizabeth, were riding in separate kayaks about a mile north-west of the dock when they both fell out of their boats. Neither one were wearing life jackets.

Elizabeth told deputies she was securing her boat while William swam toward shore. The two were reportedly communicating with each other. She said after a few minutes though, he stopped talking. She later found him face down in the water.

Peterson said Elizabeth was able to call 911 from a cell phone to request help. Crews located Kline and found him unresponsive. He was taken to Logan Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Detectives from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office believe the death was accidental but are investigating. Kline’s body was turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s office to determine the exact cause of death.

Sheriff Chad Jensen said, “We offer sincere condolences to Mrs. Kline and her family during this difficult time.”
