Former Preston Mayor killed in vehicle accident

Crews investigating single vehicle rollover near mile post 29 on Interstate 84.  UHP troopers report 2010 Dodge 4500 truck rolled multiple times, killing driver Jay B. Heusser, former mayor of Preston, Idaho.

A former mayor of Preston, Idaho, Jay B. Heusser, died early Tuesday morning in a single vehicle accident along Interstate-84 near Howell, Utah.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry said the 58-year-old Heusser was driving a 2010 Dodge 4500 truck westbound around 8:00 a.m. Near milepost 29. The truck swerved, went through the median and rolled off the eastbound side of the interstate. The truck rolled several times down an embankment and came to a rest on its wheels.

Heusser was wearing a seatbelt but was still ejected from the vehicle as it rolled multiple times down the slope. His body was found next to the truck and he appeared to have died instantly. There were no passengers.

Lee said troopers believe the truck’s left tire separated, causing Heusser to lose control.

Heusser served as mayor of Preston from 1996 to 2005. Funeral services have yet to be announced.
