Aggie football picks up three JUCO transfers

LOGAN – December 14 is this year’s initial signing date for junior college football transfers, and Utah State football announced three JUCO commitments that morning. Two of those are offensive linemen.

According to the official Twitter account of USU football recruiting, Suli Tamaivena, Rob Castaneda and Roman Andrus will join the team.

Tamaivena is a 6-foot-0, 238-pound linebacker from Kirkland, Washington. According to an article dated February 3, 2016 in the Seattle Times, Tamaivena played two years of rugby in Seattle before joining Mt. San Antonio College in California. As a freshman he had 45 tackles, 12.5 those for a loss. In 2015 those stats almost doubled to 81 tackles with 20 for loss. He committed to Washington State in February, but never played with the team.

Rob Castaneda is a 6-foot-4, 304 pound offensive lineman who most recently played for Ellsworth College. Before his time at Ellsworth, Castaneda played for Texas Tech, but was dismissed for the team after he was arrested for the burglary of a home. All charges were later dropped.

Castaneda announced his commitment in a tweet on Monday.

“I thank god every day for the path he has taken me,” Castaneda wrote. “Everyone who has stuck with me through this long process I thank them too. It is truly a blessing to have made this come back and to be able to play in the Mountain West conference. I’m looking forward to this off season and a new chapter in my life. Go Aggies!”
