Truck accident temporarily closes portion of Valley View Highway

LOGAN — A traffic accident Thursday afternoon temporarily closed a portion of Valley View Highway, SR-30.

Logan City Police Capt. Tyson Budge said the crash involved a semi-truck and a flat-bed truck just north of the Logan Landfill.

“The semi-truck was eastbound on SR-30, 200 North,” explained Budge. “The driver of the F-350 flat-bed farm truck was going westbound. He attempted to turn left into a field at about 1400 W. and was struck by the semi.”

The semi-truck hit the farm truck near the rear of the vehicle, spinning it into some nearby excavators that were parked along the roadside.

Officers, paramedics, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies and Utah Highway Patrol troopers all responded to the scene.

“The driver of the [flat-bed] truck was transported to the hospital by ambulance, but he was conscious and alert when he left the scene.”

The accident occurred at 4:00 p.m. Officers closed SR-30 in both directions for an hour, while crews investigated and cleared the accident.

Budge said the accident took longer to clean up because both trucks were leaking fuel close to the nearby marsh.

“The Health Department came out and looked at it. They are going to scrape the ground in the morning and haul a little bit of it away. It looks like it was pretty much contained.”

Investigation into the accident is ongoing. The driver of the flat-bed truck is expected to be cited for failing to yield.
