Wednesday night is the night local legislators are holding their monthly Town Hall meeting and State Senator Lyle Hillyard, who is the evening’s chairman, invites everyone interested to attend.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Historic Cache County Courthouse in Logan. Hillyard says the topic up for discussion will be “Recruiting and Retaining Teachers – Community and Legislative Responsibility.”
“Money’s part of it,” Hillyard says, “but I think it’s more important that we as a community back our education system. We ought to volunteer and go to school and be there.
“We ought to be more supportive of our own children and grandchildren in school and make sure they do what they should do, have the proper respect for teachers. There is an attitude in the community that teaching is a great profession, that they do a great job.”
Hillyard says the speakers are Tami Pyfer, education advisor to Governor Gary Herbert, Terry Shoemaker, associate executive director of Utah School Boards of Education, Teryl Warner, member of the Utah Board of Education and representative from the USU College of Education.
