It’s the Weekend – 11/30/17

The holiday season is upon us and there are a lot of great holiday events going on this weekend, including <a href=”http://vetmed.usu.edu/” target=”_blank”>Reindeer Express</a> at the indoor riding arena at the Utah State south farm complex.

Help Santa get his reindeer ready for the big holiday, meet Comet, Cupid and other manger animals. Personally hand deliver your Christmas letter to Santa and enjoy music from local choirs. Plus, you can learn how veterinarians help keep these animals healthy. Reindeer Express is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at 3580 South, Highway 89/91 in Wellsville.

The <a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/calendar/event_f420aeb2-c9c7-11e7-b4f0-4f2fe17e491d.html” target=”_blank”>“All Wrapped Up”</a> Craft Fair is Friday and Saturday at the Hyrum Senior Center. You can find gifts, baskets, food and toys. It’s a great place to do some Christmas shopping.

The Logan Tabernacle will be filled with beautiful holiday music Friday evening with <a href=”https://www.facebook.com/events/174772729770712/” target=”_blank”>“It’s Christmas Time.”</a> The free concert welcomes in the holiday season, featuring five vocal soloists, accompanied by a live band and begins at 7 p.m.

Four Seasons Theatre Company presents the holiday classic <a href=”https://www.fourseasonstheatre.org/” target=”_blank”>“White Christmas”</a> performed at the Sky View High School auditorium Friday, Saturday, next Monday, then again next weekend. Evening performances are at 7:30 with Saturday matinees at 1:30.

Talented artists will have their gingerbread houses on display throughout Historic Downtown Logan beginning this weekend. Visit downtown businesses to check out the <a href=”http://www.logandowntown.org/parade-of-gingerbread-homes.html” target=”_blank”>Parade of Gingerbread Houses</a>. And don’t forget to vote on your favorite ones!

Ever wanted to know how to make your own wreaths? You should attend the <a href=”http://logannature.org/centerevents/wreath-making-workshop” target=”_blank”>Wreath-Making Workshop</a> 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Stokes Nature Center. Instructors will guide you in constructing your own wreath with fresh evergreens, foliage, pine cones and other natural items. Bring your own pruning clippers and pliers if you have them.

The USU Department of Theatre Arts presents Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, <a href=”https://sa1.seatadvisor.com/sabo/servlets/TicketRequest?eventId=1179401&amp;presenter=CAINE&amp;venue=&amp;event=&amp;version=&amp;tck=true” target=”_blank”>Much Ado About Nothing</a>. Performances are in the Morgan Theatre Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2.

Click your heels and join Dorothy at the national tour of <a href=”https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?ticketing=cache” target=”_blank”>The Wizard of Oz</a>. The enchanting adaptation of the all-time classic is being performed at the Ellen Eccles Theatre Friday evening at 8 and again Saturday afternoon at 1.

Saturday night the <a href=”http://fansocialhub.com/utahstate/basketball/tickets/index.html” target=”_blank”>Utah State men’s basketball</a> team hosts BYU in the Spectrum. It’s a Black-Out game so if you go, wear black!

The Westminster Handbell Choir is visiting Lewiston Saturday afternoon for the <a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/calendar/event_d00cad96-cc3d-11e7-8d52-5cb9017b8d1c.html” target=”_blank”>“Ringing In Christmas”</a> concert at Lewiston Elementary School. Lewiston Elementary Children’s Choir will also be performing. The free concert begins Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Two performances of <a href=”http://www.forgottencarols.com/shows/logan-high-school-matinee/” target=”_blank”>The Forgotten Carols</a> will take place Saturday at the Logan High School auditorium. There will be a matinee performance at 2, and an evening performance at 7:30 p.m. It’s a family tradition and a great way to start the holiday season.

While this is a busy time for concerts and holiday activities, it’s also a special time to help those in need.

The <a href=”http://www.cachecountysubforsanta.org/” target=”_blank”>Cache County Sub for Santa</a> program is well underway for people who need assistance this Christmas. If you want to sponsor a child, check out the Angel Trees at ShopKo and both Lee’s Marketplace locations in Cache Valley.

During this cold season you can help <a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/calendar/event_0b01376a-c2bf-11e7-9f84-5b28e275003c.html” target=”_blank”>Cache Shoes 4 Kids</a>. They’re raising funds to provide shoes for children from local, underprivileged families. Donations are being accepted at Comprehensive Treatment Clinic, 40 West Cache Valley Boulevard Suite 10A. 

Also, the Cache Valley Media Group is sponsoring <a href=”https://caresforchristmas.org/” target=”_blank”>Cares for Christmas</a>. These are families that need help, but aren’t asking for it. They’ve been nominated by trusted individuals and you can learn more about their stories, and needs, by visiting CaresForChristmas.org.
