LOGAN — A 27-year-old Logan man has pleaded guilty to molesting a young girl. Rodney J. Thinn was arrested November 8, and will remain in jail until he is sentenced next month.

Thinn appeared in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing and accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Defense attorney Shannon Demler said as part Thinn’s plea, prosecutors agreed not to ask for the maximum sentence of 15-years-to-life in prison. They have not said what length of time they will ask for instead.

Logan City Police arrested Thinn following an investigation that he sexually abused the girl on October 7. The victim was four-years-old and an acquaintance of the defendant.

During Thursday’s court appearance, Thinn kept his head down and spoke only briefly, telling the judge that he understood the conditions of the negotiated settlement.

Judge Brian Cannell ordered Thinn to appear again in court January 29 for sentencing.

State court records show, Thinn was previously convicted of felony drug possession in 2013. He served 40-days in jail and was finishing his three-year probation when he was arrested on November 8.
