LOGAN — A small group of people spent Wednesday afternoon searching along the Logan River for Kyle Burton. The 18-year-old Wyoming man went missing November 29 when he left his grandmother’s house in River Heights.

Mykelle Nichols helped lead the group’s search. She is from Lovell, Wyoming, the same town where the Burtons have lived for years. She is a sophomore at Utah State.

“I have lived in Lovell my whole life and they (Burtons) have too,” said Nichols. “Kyle is a year younger than me in school.”

The search group met at Ryan’s Place Park Wednesday at noon. They broke up into two teams, searching along the Logan River between First Dam and 400 East. There was no sign of Burton, who has been missing for over two weeks.

Nichols said Burton’s disappearance has been so hard on his family.

“Kyle came down here to find a job and get settled. He didn’t know hardly anyone. He knew me and his grandparents, and we’re a long ways from home, like seven-hours. The poor family, they have gone through some rough times and this is just really sad, especially around the holidays.”

During the last two weeks, the family and Cache County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue teams have searched the neighborhoods and mountains nearby. They issued a press release asking for the community’s help, distributed posters, and used a helicopter to search a 1.5 mile radius around the neighborhood. Deputies scaled back their efforts last week, saying they would continue to follow-up on new leads.

Kyle Burton’s father, Gerry Burton, said the search is now being done primarily by volunteers and friends. He is still hopeful that they will find his son.

Kyle is described as being 5’10” and 210 lbs. He has brown hair, blue eyes, and is friendly, but quiet and shy. He also has a surgery scar on his left knee. He enjoys acting and singing, and loves the outdoors.

The family is running a Facebook group called Kyle Burton Search Party. Anyone who has seen Kyle or has information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office tip line at (435) 755-1100.
