LOGAN — A 48-year-old Smithfield man is expected to waive his preliminary hearing after being arrested in January and charged with molesting a young girl.

Tyler R. Miles appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony. His defense attorney asked the court for the waiver hearing to be scheduled, where the suspect will likely accept the charges filed against him.

Prosecutors allege Miles sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl, touching her inappropriately around January 2018. The victim was allegedly an acquaintance of the suspect.

Miles is currently out of jail after posting $75,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear again in court May 1.
