NFL hopefuls work out at USU’s Pro Day

LOGAN – Local NFL hopefuls showcased their talents and worked out in front of 28 NFL scouts as part of USU’s Pro Day Wednesday morning. In addition to the 12 former Utah State football players, former Logan High and Washington State quarterback Luke Falk also participated.

Every NFL team except for Baltimore, Cincinnati, Dallas and Indianapolis had a representative present. Two Canadian Football League scouts were also in attendance.

The players now wait to see if they will be called to play at the professional level. Like many others across the country, each will hope to hear his name called during the NFL Draft late next month.

“I’ll go back home with my parents and watch from San Diego,” former Aggie cornerback Jalen Davis said. “Hopefully I get (a phone call).”

Unofficially, at 4.40, Davis recorded the fastest 40-yard dash time of the day. The All-American also had the second-best vertical jump at 36 inches. Davis said he felt good about his 40 time.

“People thought I wasn’t that fast,” he said. “So I had to just come out here and show them I can run.”

The best vertical jump was recorded by cornerback Wesley Bailey at 36 inches. Bailey also had the best mark in the broad jump at 10 feet, seven inches. With 18 reps, safety Dallin Leavitt put up the best numbers on the 225-pound bench press, but wasn’t completely satisfied with it.

“I thought I was going to do more than I did,” he said. “Like I said you’re not going to do perfect on every drill, but I was happy.”

Leavitt had the second-best vertical jump at 34.5 inches and the second-best broad jump at 10 feet, two inches.

“It’s something that you dream about from a little kid,” he said. “To have this opportunity is a huge blessing and you try to act like this day is a normal day, but you’re lying to yourself if it is. There are a lot of people watching and you are trying to make impressions on a lot of teams.”

The other participating Aggies were Austin Albrecht, Jaren Colston-Green, Damion Hobbs, Alex Huerta, LaJuan Hunt, Tonny Lindsey, Jr., Kent Myers, Emmett Odegard and Braelon Roberts.
