Democratic candidate for House District 3 has focus on education

SMITHFIELD – Val Potter has filed for another term as Utah Republican Representative in House District 3 and is being challenged by Democratic candidate Marilyn Mecham.

Mecham, who lives in Smithfield with her husband and children and runs her own business, said she is interested in politics and feels there are changes in the state and county that need to be made. Her major issue is education, both elementary and higher education.

“We need to make college more affordable and we need to prioritize who we are paying the most,” she said. “Our teachers who are in the classroom, in the trenches, need to be our focus. We need less administration and more people who work with people.”

Mecham said she is proud to be a lifelong member of the Democratic Party.
