Ellis Elementary School is turning 125 years old this year. A lot of people are expected to turn out to an open house marking the occasion at the school located at 358 West 300 North in Logan. Principal Doug Beach invites both present and former students, parents and teachers to visit the school between 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 27th.
Although this is only his second year as principal, Beach says he attended one year of school at Ellis and has been trying for almost 15 years to come back to the school in some kind of capacity as a teacher or administrator.
Established in 1893, Beach says Ellis is believed to be the school serving continuously longer than any other in the state of Utah.
“Everyone is really proud of the heritage of the place,” exclaims Beach. “I’ve had the opportunity to visit with former principals, students, PTA leaders and parents who have been here.
“They are just really proud of the place and like it. One thing that jumped out at me a little bit when I first came here was how many multi-generational families go to school here.”
That being said, Beach says there are also a lot of people going to school at Ellis who come from other states and other countries.
Beach says the open house should be a good time for people to reminisce and celebrate the past.
