Candidate week continued on KVNU’s For the People Program on Tuesday. Three different Cache County Council elections are going on: the Northeast District, Southeast District and Logan’s 3rd District. Paul Borup is a Republican candidate for the 3rd county council district. Sometimes people get confused about what district they reside in.
“This particular race they divide up the county council seats based on population,” Borup explained. “So sometimes you get a really big area, and I happen to be running for one that’s pretty small. That’s essentially the Lundstrom Park/Hillcrest area and then the Adams neighborhoods.
“So you just kind of draw that line around Utah State and those two neighborhoods would make up the seat number 3.”
Borup said he’d like to see more engagement with the county council with the neighborhood communities similar to what Logan City has. He said he has been involved with the Hillcrest Neighborhood Council. He thinks Logan Mayor Holly Daines has done a good job in reaching out to Cache County Executive Craig Buttars in talks to put together more co-council meetings.
“They’re doing that, I think, October 30th of this month. But we need to do a lot more of that with some of the other city councils around the valley as well,” Borup added.
He said it’s important, especially with the growth that is coming and infrastructure issues. Borup said important issues continue to be roads and traffic, and local cities, the state and the county all need to be involved.
