LOGAN — Wyatt Martin will continue to be held in jail without bail for allegedly raping a woman brutally last month. The 21-year-old Providence man was arrested October 8 and later charged with multiple sexual assaults and drug offences.

Martin appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon for a bail hearing. Judge Thomas Willmore said the defendant had hired a new attorney, who requested the hearing be postponed, to gather evidence in the case. He ordered Martin to remain in jail and appear again in court November 5.

Martin is suspected of brutally forcing a woman to have sex with him, threatening to tie her up if she didn’t comply. He also threatened to violate her with an adult novelty item before raping her.

The victim allegedly had to seek medical treatment afterwards, because of the severity of her injuries.

Prosecutors have charged him rape and aggravated kidnapping, both first-degree felonies, forcible sex abuse and obstructing justice, both second-degree felonies, and other misdemeanors.

Martin has claimed that he was falsely accused. He could face up to life in prison if convicted.
