Deputies arrest man after alleged domestic assault in Mt. Sterling

LOGAN — Criminal charges are pending against a 26-year-old Layton man who was arrested last week, suspected of beating a woman in Mt. Sterling. Jesse Tolman was booked late Thursday night on suspicion of felony aggravated assault and kidnapping.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mikelshan Bartschi said deputies were called to the Mt. Sterling home around 9:30 p.m. after a third-party called 911.

The caller told dispatch operators that she could hear a woman screaming, “get away and don’t touch me.” She claimed Tolman was intoxicated and physically assaulting the victim.

Bartschi said, deputies found the suspect and victim inside a room of the home when they arrived on the scene. The victim claimed she had been assaulted by Tolman and held against her will. A firearm was also located in the room.

Court records show the victim filed a protective order against Tolman earlier in the day.

Tolman is being held in jail on $30,000 bail. He is expected to be arraigned in court later this week.
