Bower historical collages to be on display at gallery walk

Steve Bowers' shows a recent piece of great American Indian Chiefs. His work often includes documents, postage stamps, coins, postcards, photographs and drawings to illustrate a historical perspective.

Steve Bower is a collector, historian and artist of sorts. He assembles and organizes historical elements in his makeshift garage studio. Then he has the elements dry mounted, framed with colored mat board, then framed. He is expected to unveil a couple of new pieces at the gallery walk December 7, 6:30 p.m. at S.E. Needham Jewelers at 141 North Main Street in Logan.

Steve Bowers uses several pieces of historical documents in his work as it has become more complex.

“One piece is very specific to Cache Valley,” he said. “It honors Cache Valley residents.”

His artwork often includes documents, postage stamps, coins, postcards, photographs and drawings to illustrate a historical perspective.

“I’ve been doing it about four years, the last couple years pretty hot and heavy,” Bower said. “It’s historical art, or more generally, collage art.”

He said some pieces take longer than others.  It doesn’t take a long time to put them together, but it takes time to accumulate the elements.

“I spend a lot of time looking for and gathering elements that I want in them,” he said. “I’ve been collecting stuff for about 10 to 12 years.”

Steve Bowers shows copies of some of his earlier work.

He has given a lot of his pieces away, but has started to sell a lot more recently.

“I have some displayed in Logan City Hall, in offices at the renovated county courthouse,” he said. “I have half a dozen in different offices in town.”

Bower said his pieces started small and simple, then expanded and evolved to become more complex. He has created a pieces featuring Yellowstone National Park and some for different Presidents of the United States.

For a glimpse of Bower’s artwork, check out the Gallery Walk, December 7, at 6:30 p.m.
