LOGAN — A trial date has been scheduled for Tyler R. Miles, the 49-year-old Smithfield man charged with molesting a young girl in January.
Miles appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon. He previously waived his preliminary hearing after being charged with two counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.
Defense attorney Jeanne Campbell asked the court for the jury trial after she and prosecutors failed to reach a plea agreement. She said the trial would likely last three-days.
Judge Kevin Allen set the trial to begin April 30.
Prosecutors allege Miles sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl, touching her inappropriately. The victim was allegedly an acquaintance of the suspect.
Miles is currently out of jail after posting $75,000 bail. He could face up to life in prison if convicted.
