LOGAN — Police suspect drowsy driving was the cause of a fatal accident that killed a Logan man and sent seven others to the hospital. The crash occurred Sunday afternoon near 2230 South US-89/91.
Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen said a gray SUV was northbound when the driver crossed the median, hitting a white SUV that was travelling south.
“We believe the driver of the gray SUV fell asleep, crossing over, and striking the white SUV southbound,” Jensen explained.
The driver of the white SUV, a 29-year-old Logan man was killed. A female and infant in the vehicle were injured and transported to the hospital by ambulance. Their identities are being withheld, pending notification of family.
The driver and four passengers in the gray SUV also sustained injuries. They were all transported to the hospital.
Two other vehicles were indirectly involved in the crash. None of the occupants sustained any major injuries.
Jensen said the crash is a tragic reminder for drivers to pay attention when they are on the road.
“It appears we have a storm that might be approaching as well that could exacerbate difficulties of travel. So we just ask people to buckle up, obviously pay attention closely to the road and travel safely through the holidays.”
The crash partially closed US-89/91 for more than three hours while officers investigated and cleared the accident. Charges are pending completion of the investigation.
