It’s the Weekend: Jan. 17-20, 2019

We’ve got some great things going on in Cache Valley this weekend, from cultural events, to sporting events…to fighting! We’ve got all the details right here!

New Art Exhibit

If you enjoy art, you could be very busy this weekend. The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art opens a new exhibit beginning Thursday, titled Collecting on the Edge Part II. The opening is free to the public from 7-9 p.m.

Guitar, Bass and Drum Festival

Just across the sidewalk to the west in the Performance Hall is the Guitar, Bass and Drum Festival. The festival will showcase international, national and local talent both Thursday and Friday nights, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Masquerade Ball

On Friday at 8 p.m. the USU Arts Council hosts their annual Masquerade Ball in the Taggart Student Center. It’s free, open to all USU students, and formal or semi-formal attire is encouraged.

Community Art Day

If you could paint a picture of your life, what images would you use? Saturday morning at 9 a.m. you can create colorful and symbolic artwork with Scratchboard Painting. The free event is at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at USU and all ages are welcome.

USU Gymnastics

If you’re looking for some more active events to watch or participate in this weekend, they begin with the big USU vs BYU gymnastics meet in the Spectrum on Friday. It will be Youth Gymnastics Night and Daddy-Daughter Date Night. There will even be face painting and balloon animals on the concourse. The meet starts at 7.

Nordic United Fundraiser

Nordic United sponsors human-powered winter recreation in Cache Valley and they’ve got their annual fundraiser and winter social this Friday. It’s being held at the Logan River Golf Course starting at 6:30 p.m.

Dew the Mountain

If you prefer skis that go significantly faster, you might want to participate in the Dew the Mountain ski race at Beaver Mountain on Saturday. Test your racing skills down a short course on Tiny Tim. Registration is from 8:45-10:15 a.m., with races starting at 11.

USU Men’s Basketball

Saturday night the USU men’s basketball team hosts Colorado State in the Spectrum at 7. They’ll be celebrating National Popcorn Day with half price popcorn.

Mountain Force 8 MMA

Also Saturday night is Mountain Force 8, an MMA fight at the Cache County Events Center. The event features fighters who are professional and amateur, as well as local and national fighters. Doors open at 6, fights begin at 7.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday

Don’t forget, Monday is the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. It’s a great day to remember the life and achievements of this influential American civil rights leader. Schools, banks, the post office, state and federal offices will all be closed on Monday.
