LOGAN — A local family accidentally threw out more then they wanted to, after the cremated remains of their relative were found, discarded at the Logan City Landfill. Law enforcement were called to the dump Saturday around 4:15 p.m. to investigate.
Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen said the family was allegedly helping their mother clean out her garage. They were doing some early spring cleaning, and didn’t realize that the remains of their loved one were among several items that they wanted to discard. The family took the load to the landfill earlier in the day.
A landfill employee was notified after someone found the remains were found inside a shed that is used for storing paints and toxic chemicals. The remains were inside box, with a name on it.
Jensen explained that luckily the mistake was caught quickly before the remains were disposed of at the landfill.
Police and city employees were able to track the name on the box and return the remains to the family.
