Search and Rescue crews called to help wrecked snowmobiler

Search and rescue teams were called out Thursday afternoon to help an injured snowmobiler who crashed his sled near Tony Grove Lake, east of Logan. The crash was reported just after 1:30 p.m.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Doyle Peck said a middle aged man was riding in the Cornish Ridge area when he reportedly wrecked. His son, who was riding his own sled, was able to reach his father and call 911.

The man reportedly sustained a broken leg and internal injuries but was conscious and breathing.

The two men were just below the ridge above the northeast of the lake. They requested a medical helicopter. Peck explained that because of avalanche dangers, the helicopter crew said they could not land in the area.

Rescuers were able to reach the man around 4 p.m. As they arrived, the victim’s condition began to deteriorate and he went into shock. Crews performed CPR and were able to revive him. They transported him down to where the medical helicopter was able to land.

Peck said the man was flown to Logan Regional Hospital. He was in extremely critical condition.

The man’s identity is not being released. His family has been notified of the accident.
