Former Utah State football player Aaren Vaughns joining Indianapolis Colts

LOGAN, Utah – Former Utah State wide receiver Aaren Vaughns has signed an NFL free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts.

Vaughns joins six other former Aggies who have signed NFL free agent contracts over the weekend. Tight end Dax Raymond and wide receiver Ron’quavion Tarver both signed with the Chicago Bears, while linebacker Jontrell Rocquemore and safety Aaron Wade both signed with the Cleveland Browns, and offensive lineman Roman Andrus and safety Gaje Ferguson both signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The seven players listed above joins Darwin Thompson in the NFL as the running back was drafted in the sixth round (214th overall pick) by the Kansas City Chiefs.

The eight Utah State players listed above will join 14 other former Aggies who are currently on NFL rosters, including safety Maurice Alexander (Buffalo Bills), cornerback Jalen Davis (Miami Dolphins), safety Marwin Evans (Seattle Seahawks), linebacker Kyler Fackrell (Green Bay Packers), offensive guard Tyler Larsen (Carolina Panthers), defensive back Nevin Lawson (Oakland Raiders), safety Dallin Leavitt (Oakland Raiders), running back Devante Mays (Cleveland Browns), long snapper Patrick Scales (Chicago Bears), wide receiver Hunter Sharp (Cincinnati Bengals), running back Robert Turbin (Oakland Raiders), linebacker Nick Vigil (Cincinnati Bengals), linebacker Bobby Wagner (Seattle Seahawks) and running back Kerwynn Williams (Detroit Lions).

Vaughns, a 5-foot-7, 185-pounder from Altadena, Calif. (Charter Oak HS/Mt. San Antonio JC), played in all 13 games, making seven starts, during his senior season. He finished the year with 33 receptions for 581 yards (17.6 ypr) and five touchdowns, while carrying the ball 12 times for 100 yards (8.3 ypc). Overall, he ranked third on the team in every receiving category, while his 17.6 yards per reception average ranked third in the Mountain West and 30th in the nation. He concluded the 2018 season with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games, the first of his career, with a career-high seven receptions for 107 yards at No. 21 Boise State and two receptions for a career-high 109 yards with a career-best two touchdowns against North Texas in the New Mexico Bowl, which included a career-long 72-yard touchdown reception.

For his career, Vaughns played in 28 games with eight starts and caught 47 passes for 736 yards (15.7 ypr) and five touchdowns, while carrying the ball 18 times for 199 yards (11.1 ypc) and one touchdown.
