Utah State softball tops Utah Valley Saturday

OREM, Utah – Utah State softball opened a home-and-home weekend against Utah Valley in the win column Saturday, as the Aggies defeated the Wolverines, 1-0, on the road.
The Aggies snap a nine-game losing streak with the win, improving to 14-28 on the year. Utah Valley falls to 15-28 overall with the loss.
Utah State had at least one base runner in each inning Saturday, but it took until the sixth inning to bring one home. Sophomore outfielder Stephanie Reed hit a lead-off single, advancing to second on a sac bunt from freshman shortstop Lexi Orozco. Junior outfielder Ryann Holmes then hit a single through the right side, giving Reed enough time to make it to the plate.
Holmes was the only Aggie to record multiple hits, as she came in to pinch hit in the fourth inning.
Utah Valley tallied seven hits to Utah State’s six, but the Wolverines also made two errors while the Aggies kept a clean slate. Sophomore Delaney Hull pitched the complete game shutout for USU, striking out one batter and walking two.
Utah State and Utah Valley will be back in action on Sunday, May 5, in a p.m. game in Logan.
