LOGAN — A 46-year-old Logan man has confessed to sexually abusing four young girls during the past 20 years. Rand S. Meyerhoffer, who remains in jail without bail, accepted a plea deal from prosecutors that could still send him to prison.
Court records show, Meyerhoffer appeared 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped four remaining charges against him.
Detectives began investigating Meyerhoffer after one of the alleged victims told their mother that the suspect had molested her. She described how he “patted” or “touched” her inappropriately, over and underneath her clothing.
As the investigation continued, three more alleged victims described similar incidents. The girls ranged in ages from 8 to 11-years-old when the sexual abuses occurred. All of them were acquaintances of the suspect.
The fourth victim, who is an adult now, told police how Meyerhoffer molested her for more than nine years, until she was over 20-years-old. She explained how he would purchase alcohol and drugs for her while she was a teenager. He would also get her drunk and then ask her to expose herself, while he inappropriately touched himself.
The woman claimed that Meyerhoffer took pornographic photographs of her when she was a teenager. She also said he would play “strip poker” with her and another one of the victims.
When detectives interviewed Meyerhoffer, he admitted to taking pictures of “butt cracks.” He also acknowledged to playing strip poker with the victims “a long time ago.”
During Tuesday’s court appearance, Judge Brian Cannell ordered a presentence report to be completed by probation agents about Meyerhoffer’s criminal history. He also scheduled sentencing for June 25.
