It’s the Weekend: May 9-12, 2019

From railroad celebrations to fancy rocks and gems, we’ve got all the details about everything happening this weekend in Cache Valley.

Golden Spike Sesquicentennial

This weekend we celebrate the sesquicentennial of the Golden Spike. Reenactments and festivities to celebrate the completion of the transcontinental railroad will take place throughout the day on Friday at Promontory Summit. All the parking passes for Friday are sold out, but reenactments and festivities will continue Saturday and Sunday at the National Historic Site in Box Elder County.

Rock and Gem Show

A Rock Odyssey takes place this weekend at the Cache County Events Center. While it has nothing to do with big hair bands, it has everything to do with unique rocks, fossils, gems and demonstrations. There is no admission and the show runs through Saturday.

Field of Angels

Field of Angels is a unified baseball league for kids with disabilities to have the opportunity to play America’s favorite pastime and create lasting relationships. League play isn’t until July, but registration ends on May 10th. For information about registration, or how to be an Angel Buddy on the field, visit www.fieldofangels.net.

Ramadan Community Feast

USU’s Muslim Students club is inviting the public to participate in a Ramadan Interfaith Dinner. It will take place in the Aggie Village Pavilion on Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights at 8:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend and there is no charge. Similarly, the Logan Islamic Center is also hosting an Iftar dinner Saturday at 8:45 p.m. at 748 North 600 East in Logan.

Smithfield Health Days

Smithfield Health Days are this weekend. Smithfield Youth Theatre presents The Pirates of Penzance on Friday, and Saturday begins with a pancake breakfast at 6:30 at the Smithfield Fire Station, Smithfield Health Days Fun Run beginning at Mack Park, the parade at 10 a.m., lots of activities at Forrester Acres park and fireworks at dark.

Gardener’s Market

This Saturday marks the opening of the Gardener’s Market in downtown Logan. It’s the best place to find fresh, locally grown produce and other local products on the grounds of the historic courthouse.

Logan River Restoration

Volunteers are needed to help restore the Logan River this weekend. More than 400 trees and shrubs will be planted. Grab a shovel, or bring your own, starting at 9 a.m. at Rendezvous Park.

Community Art Day

Saturday is Community Art Day and you’re invited to work together to create a chalk art mandala from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at USU.

World Fair Trade Day

Saturday is also World Fair Trade Day, a worldwide festival to celebrate fair trade. Join Global Village Gifts at 12 noon as they celebrate with music and events at 69 East 100 North in Logan.
