JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Workers have rescued a family of ducklings that was trapped after falling through a cattle guard on a roadway near the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s building outside Jackson.

The Jackson Hole News and Guide reports a passer-by told transportation department employees that there was an agitated mother duck near the cattle guard. At least eight ducklings were trapped 4 feet underneath the grate.

Department worker Tere Nelson says the ducklings were too far away to reach by hand.

Five of them used a bulldozer to lift a section of the cattle guard, and one of the workers jumped in to grab the ducklings.

They were reunited with their mother in a nearby pond.
