Grant Lamar Nelson Jr. (Shorty)

April 1 1961 – July 8, 2019 (age 58)

On July 8, 2019 Grant Lamar Nelson Jr. (Shorty) passed away.

Grant was born April 1, 1961 to Grant LaMar & Kathleen Isaacson Nelson.  When his mom announced his birth, it was thought to be an April Fool’s joke, and wasn’t believed until the following day.

At two years old (1963) Grant traveled with his parents and two siblings to Vina Del Mar, Chile where, as a little boy, he spent his days along-side his dad building one of the first LDS church houses in the country. He continued to work construction with his dad until his father’s retirement many years later   Following Grant’s high school graduation from Sky View High School, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1980 – 1982.

In 1996 he met and married Trish Wamsley.  Together they had a son Jacob LaMar Nelson who is currently serving an LDS mission in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  He enjoyed spending time with Jacob going fishing and attending his sporting events. Grant lived in College Ward, Utah most of his life.  He loved the little community and the people who lived there.  He had the gift of gab and enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors.  He also enjoyed reading and studying history and world events.  Grant was an excellent woodworker, and crafted beautiful items for his home, friends, and neighbors. We are grateful for the help and love he received from his friends in College Ward, Utah and Maple Springs Assisted Living Center.

Grant is survived by his wife Trish and son Jacob, step-children Zane, Brock and Kelsee.  Also surviving are his siblings, Ann Saunders (Vince), Jane Wade (Steve), Sandra Ricks (Mike), Fred Nelson, Janice Dopp (Mike).  He is proceeded in death by his mother.

Viewing will be conducted Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 11:00am – 12:00 Noon at Cache Valley Mortuary, 80 West 4200 North, Hyde Park.  A graveside service will follow on at 12:30pm in the Logan City Cemetery.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at cvmortuary.com
