Fire fighters were called to a grass fire Saturday afternoon. The blaze was reported just after 1:30 p.m. near 3400 N. 2400 W. in Benson.
According to emergency radio traffic, the two-alarm fire occurred in a field north of Darrell’s Appliance. People were burning debris in the field, when the flames spread out of control.
The individuals claimed they had a burn permit but lost control of the fire.
First crews on the scene reported the fire had burned roughly an acre of land. It was in short grass and not threatening any structures.
Multiple brush and tinder units were able to extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading.
