Jazz player appearance and a Pickleball Tournament on the Logan Parks calendar

LOGAN – The public is invited to come and meet Utah Jazz rookie player Justin Wright-Foreman at a free event Saturday morning. He will be at the Logan Community Recreation Center (195 South 100 West in Logan) starting at 10 a.m. Wright-Foreman was ranked 2nd in the nation in scoring as a senior at Hofstra University in New York.

Wright-Foreman was drafted by the Utah Jazz as the 53rd pick in the recent NBA Draft. On KVNU’s For the People program on Thursday, Logan Parks and Recreation manager Dan Blakely talked about the Jazz player appearance program.

“Being part of the Junior Jazz program, part of our agreement with them every year is we get a Jazz player appearance,” Blakely explained. “Typically, where we’re at the north end of the state, ours is this time of the year versus during the season when the local programs closer to Salt Lake get their player appearance a little closer to the season.

“But we’ve been fortunate to have a player up here every year and it’s a lot of fun for all the kids and everybody that comes out.

Another event that will happen next month is a Pickleball Tournament in Logan.

“This will be our third tournament. The first two have been really successful; people have gotten out (and) had a good time with them,” he continued. “Whitney Allen, one of the coordinators that oversees this tournament, she does a great job with it, actually participates in it as well.

“She’s become a Pickleball junkie and they all have a good time. Pickeball’s become very popular and it’s a growing sport and one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation, actually, right now.

It’s called the 2019 Fall Paddle Battle Doubles – Pickleball Tournament and will be held September 12th thru 14th at Bridger Park in Logan. You can register using PickleballPassport.com or contact the Logan Recreation Center for more information.
