It’s the Weekend: Aug 22-25, 2019

It’s back-to-school week (which is a celebration in and of itself!), the Box Elder County Fair and Rodeo is this week, community celebrations in River Heights and Paradise, and there are a ton of other fun events happening in our community. We’ve got all the details right here, on “It’s the Weekend!”

Back to School

Welcome back to school! Students all over the area have returned to school this week, so be mindful of crosswalks, crossing guards, and school buses. Incoming freshmen at Utah State University are on campus this week with all other students arriving this weekend. Welcome back students!

Box Elder County Fair and Rodeo

The Box Elder County Fair and Rodeo has been going on all week and continues this weekend. Carnival rides, Golden Spike Rodeo, displays, live music on the grandstand…it’s so much fun and it continues through Saturday in Tremonton.

Sunshine Swing

Celebrate 70 years of caring at the Sunshine Swing, Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at The Vineyards at Mount Naomi Farms. The evening of dinner, drinks and jazz benefits the Sunshine Terrace Foundation.

Lifehouse

Hear live music in the mountains this weekend when Lifehouse performs at Cherry Peak Ski Resort Friday. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

Canyon Jams

Also, Canyon Jams takes place Friday night. The Two Tracks perform at 2nd Dam. Doors open at 6, the concert begins at 7.

Top of Utah Half Marathon

The Altra Top of Utah Half Marathon starts 7 miles up Blacksmith Fork Canyon and concludes in Providence. There are multiple points along the race to cheer on the runners.

Cache Valley Century Ride

The Cache Valley Century Ride is Saturday. Cyclists can choose a non-competitive bike ride of 35, 60 or 100 miles that winds through Northern Utah and Southern Idaho. All races begin and end in Richmond and benefit Common Ground Outdoor Adventures.

Highline River Trail 5K

Take a run up the mouth of Logan Canyon at the Highline River Trail 5K on Saturday. The trail run begins at First Dam at 8:10 a.m. There is a limit as to how many runners can participate in the 5K.

Trout and Berry Days

In Paradise, Trout and Berry Days festivities go all day Saturday, starting first thing in the morning with a 5K fun run at 7 and events going all day. It includes a parade at 10:30, a trout scramble at 12 noon, a berry pie eating contest at 1:30 with the trout dinner and berry tarts from 6-8:30 p.m.

Apple Days

Food trucks, vendors, fun games for kids, a kids bike parade at 3:15, grand parade at 4, tennis tournament and a whole lot more take place Saturday in River Heights for Apple Days. Ryan’s Place Park is home base for all the fun.

Blue Goes Green

And find out about sustainability options at First Dam Saturday afternoon from 2-4:30 p.m. There will be canoes, paddleboards, games and booths to learn about the various sustainability groups at Utah State University.
