The 2019 Cache Valley Historic Home Tour showcases the Victorian era of Cache Valley

2019 home tour features 7 homes in Logan and Providence built around 1900.

LOGAN – The 2019 Cache Valley Historic Home Tour will feature seven different homes located in Logan and Providence and will begin at 10 a.m. this Saturday, September 7.

“We have a fantastic line-up of houses this year and I’m very excited for our visitors to tour these homes,” said Courtney Cochley, coordinator of the home tour and president of the Cache Valley Historical Society.

Many of the homes have comparable Victorian elements because of their similar build-dates around the 1900s, but each house is unique.

“I think one of the most exciting houses this year is the ‘Boat House’. It’s a modern house built in 1936 but continually added on and improved over the next 60 years,” Cochley said. It also features curving walls, brightly colored fixtures, and many hidden rooms and compartments.

Three homes on this year’s tour were built by prominent mayors (Alvin Crockett and George W. Thatcher Sr. of Logan and John Edward Hansen of Providence). John A. Crockett, Alvin’s son who inherited his house and built its extension, also served as Logan mayor beginning in 1922. George Thatcher was also the superintendent of the railroad in the 1870s.

Tickets cost $10 and are available at the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau (199 N. Main St., cash or check only) and Lee’s Marketplace (Logan and Smithfield locations). Tickets will also be on sale at each of the homes the day of the tour (cash or check only).

Proceeds will fund scholarships for Utah State University students researching local history, as well as provide transportation for local school children to visit the American West Heritage Center in Wellsville.
