Utah State women’s basketball announces 2019-20 non-conference schedule

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women’s basketball announced the rest of its 2019-20 schedule on Thursday. The non-conference slate is highlighted by two NCAA Tournament teams, as well as three in-state rivals.

“We are excited about our schedule this season,” associate head coach Ben Finkbeiner said. “Our team will be challenged in a variety of ways that will prepare us for the Mountain West. The schedule is unique this year, due to the change in league game start dates. We have a lot of action before Christmas.”

The Aggies’ non-conference ledger will include 11 official games and one exhibition game. Utah State will play six games at home in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, and six games on the road. The schedule includes games against two PAC-12 opponents, two from the WCC, two from the WAC, and two from the Big West. USU also faces one representative each from the Big Sky, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Conference USA.

We always embrace the opportunity to play PAC-12 programs,” Finkbeiner said. “Our team has the opportunity grow quickly from the experience.”

The 2019-20 season will open as the Aggies host an exhibition game against Arizona Christian on Nov. 2. The regular season will then begin with a two-game homestand as USU takes on Portland on Nov. 7, followed by a matchup with Seattle University on Nov. 9.

Utah State will have a four-game road stretch, beginning at Oregon on Nov. 13. The Ducks made it to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament in the 2018-19 season, ending the season ranked seventh in the AP Poll. Utah State continues its road trip at Long Beach State on Nov. 18, Cal State Fullerton on Nov. 20 and BYU on Nov. 26. USU returns to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum to host Dixie State on Dec. 2.

Following its first two Mountain West games, Utah State will take on Oregon State on the road on Dec. 14. The Beavers finished the 2018-19 season with an NCAA Tournament run to the Sweet Sixteen and ended the season ranked No. 11 in the AP Poll. The Aggies will then have a two-game homestand, hosting North Texas on Dec. 16, and Idaho State on Dec. 19.

The non-conference schedule wraps up as the Aggies take on Utah Valley on the road on Dec. 21.

The 2019-20 Mountain West season features home-and-home games against eight of the 10 conference teams, while USU will face Nevada and New Mexico once each. The conference season will begin as the Aggies host San José State at home on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Utah State returns five letterwinners and two starters, and will add four freshmen and a sophomore transfer. Head coach Jerry Finkbeiner returns for his eighth season at the helm of Utah State women’s basketball. Last season, the Aggies posted a 17-16 overall record, while going 10-8 in conference play.
